Summer Events at the Perry Memorial Library

The Summer Reading program has begun at Perry Memorial Library.  We have many special events coming throughout the summer and weekly events for kids of all ages –  preschool to 18.  There are prizes for reading as well as the many programs and everything is free!

We kick off each week with the Books & More program on Mondays at 1:00 pm.  The Books & More program is for school age children kindergarten to fifth grade.  The programs consist of stories and activities or crafts that are all centered around the summer’s science theme – “Fizz! Boom! Read!”.   Some of the topics include:  Animal Adaptations and Camouflage, Plants and Seeds, Dinosaurs and more.  On Tuesdays at 6:00 pm we have the Teens and Tweens program for 12-18 year olds.  The program is a time for teens and tweens to hang out and have fun.  We will be playing video and board games as well as watching movies and doing some crafts.  Most Wednesdays at 1:00 pm we will be showing fun movie matinees.  Our first movie on June 18th will be the first How to Train Your Dragon movie.  On Thursday mornings at 11:00 am preschoolers can come and enjoy Mother Goose time with stories, songs, activities or crafts.

We have many special events coming to the library as well.  Our next special event is on July 25th at 3:00 pm.  We will present Flumpa and Friends Live and their program, “Science Rocks – Get Up , Get Active!”  This is a high energy musical entertainment program that gets everyone moving and involved.  It’s fun for the whole family.

As always, the summer Reading program has its emphasis on reading.  When a child or teen registers for the program; they receive a reading log.  Children preschool through fifth grade record each 15 minutes they read with a sticker until their log is full.  Full reading logs are then returned to the library for a prize.  Teens keep a record of their reading each week and can enter a weekly raffle for each two (2) hours of reading they complete.  Weekly raffle prizes are for Wal-Mart or iTune gift cards.  All weekly entrants will also be included in a grand prize drawing at the end of Summer Reading on August 8 for a Kindle Fire.

Come by the Perry Memorial Library to find out more about all of the programs being offered and to register.  Perry Memorial Library is located at 205 Breckenridge Street in Henderson.  All of the programs are free of charge and open to everyone!
