Vance County Schools – School Year Underway

The 2014-2015 school year has already begun for Vance County Schools with the Early College High School students beginning their classes on August 7, new teachers starting work on August 11 and all other teachers beginning work today.

The remaining students at the school system’s other 16 schools are set to begin classes on Monday, August 25.

The Open House sessions for students and their parents at all schools, with the exception of the new STEM Early High School, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 21. The STEM Early High School, located at Northern Vance High School, is now a full-fledged middle school serving students in grades 6-8. The school will hold its Open House from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, at Northern Vance.

All students and parents are urged to attend these sessions to receive important information about the new school year and to meet their teachers and school administrators.

The student attendance times in Vance County Schools have been adjusted slightly for the new school year. The attendance times are:

  • Elementary Schools: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Middle Schools: 7:50 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.
  • High Schools: 8 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.

The student times for the STEM Early High School, the Early College High School and Western Vance High School may be adjusted slightly from these times.

For the first time this school year, the school system will offer free breakfasts and lunches to all students each school day. The Community Eligibility Provision program provides the free meals and is a new reimbursement option for public school systems, available for the first time in all states across the nation. It is available as a result of the federal Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010. Parents and guardians of students will no longer need to complete the free and reduced price meal applications.
