VGCC Warren Campus to hold free Grant-Writing Seminar

The Vance-Granville Community College Small Business Center has scheduled a free seminar, entitled “Finding & Writing Grants,” for Thursday, Sept. 11, from 1 until 4 p.m. at the college’s Warren County Campus in Warrenton.

Ideally suited for non-profit organizations, this seminar focuses on how to get organized to prepare grant proposals, along with grant-writing tips. Topics to be discussed include: how to be prepared as an organization, elements of a grant proposal, researching potential funders and building relationships with funders.

The instructor for the seminar will be Karen Kennedy, Community Development Manager for the Sanford/Lee County Community Development Department in Sanford, N.C. Kennedy earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration and public administration from Elon College and Central Michigan University.

Her areas of work have included neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, downtown revitalization, grant writing and grants administration. She has served as a board member of Brick Capital CDC, the North Carolina Community Development Association, and the Division of Community Assistance’s CD Partners Group. Kennedy enjoys working with community improvement programs.

Seating is limited for this free seminar, and participants must pre-register by Aug. 29. For more information, contact Small Business Center director Tanya Weary at smallbusiness@vgcc.edu or (252) 738-3240. Registration can be completed online at www.ncsbc.net/center.aspx?center=75530
