NC Cooperative Extension Garden Tips plus upcoming seminars


THIS WEEK IN THE GARDEN
1. Mushrooms are generally not harmful to lawn. Simply remove them or mow them.
2. Tall fescue sowing season starts NOW! Reseeding or overseeding should be completed by mid-September for best results.
3. There is still a lot you can plan in the fall garden! Beets, broccoli, collards, swiss chard, cabbage, kale, kohlrabi, mustard, onions, spinach, radish, turnips.
4. Get ready to compost! Prepare your compost bin for fall leaves.
5. Spray peach & plum trees for peach tree borer.
6. Spray pecan trees for pecan weevil.

BULBS IN CONTAINERS WORKSHOP

Join Kerr Lake Extension Master Gardener Edna Gaston as she leads attendees in getting the inside scoop with a brief discussion about growing bulbs in containers followed by a live demonstration. Vance County Regional Farmers Market, 210 Southpark Dr. on Saturday, October 25, 10 am. $5 for the class, or $20 if you’d like to create your own container bulb garden (materials provided). Pre-registration required, call or e-mail for details.
