To highlight its importance, both as a crop and as part of the changing U.S. diet, this is National Rice Month. Globally, rice is the world’s most important cereal grain. Reflecting both our increasing cultural diversity and awareness of good nutrition, Americans have increased their annual consumption of rice from 1980’s 9½ pounds to today’s 31 pounds each. Rice has been grown in America since the late 17th century, and is currently a $3 billion a year crop. While not the world’s leading producer, the U.S. is the leading non-Asian exporter of rice, sending nearly $2.3 billion worth annually to overseas markets. The grain is raised by farmers in Arkansas, California, Mississippi, Texas, Missouri and Louisiana. Profile America is in its17th year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau.

I see that your Vance County Commissioners met last evening and I got my 1st good laugh of what I hope to be 1 of many today. I see that one of your commissioners(D.Brown) was quoted in the Daily Dispatch as saying:”Right now we can let sleeping dogs lie, but the won’t for long”. Nice to know that she thinks as the citizens of Vance as “dogs”!!! If you are a resident of Vance County and don’t let it be known to the County Manager and to D.Brown that you don’t like to be referred to as “dogs” then you are spineless. You wonder why your county is the punchline of jokes…..look no further than your elected officials who think so poorly of you or don’t have enough since to use a better analogy. The quote is on page A12 in today’s Daily Dispatch in regards to an extension being granted/not granted to Semprius to meet requirements in regards to a loan but I think the quote from Mrs. Brown was in regards to the fiasco in your area better known as COUNTY WIDE WATER!!!
P.S. Don’t forget your flea/tick repellant today!!
