RALEIGH – From carved creations to dynamic dioramas, children of all ages will have a chance to show off their artistic side during the State Farmers Market’s annual Decorated Pumpkin Contest on Thursday, Oct. 9.
The contest is divided into three age divisions: 8 and under, 9 to 15, and 16 and older. Contestants can carve, paint and use other art media to decorate their entries. Decorated pumpkins will be judged on use of color and shape, the quality of the pumpkin used and creativity. No artificial pumpkins will be accepted.
Entries can be dropped off at the Farmers Building on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 3 to 5 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 9, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Judging will start at 10 a.m. Thursday. All entries will be displayed in the Farmers Building through the end of October.
All participants will receive a free State Farmers Market T-shirt for entering. The top four winners in each division also will receive prize money: $40 for first place, $25 for second, $10 for third and $5 for fourth.
