“Getting Paid to Talk” is subject of new VGCC class

A new one-night class being offered at Vance-Granville Community College will introduce area residents to the growing “voice over” field.

Entitled “Getting Paid to Talk,” this class is scheduled to be held at VGCC’s South Campus, between Creedmoor and Butner, on Wednesday, March 18, from 6:30 until 9 p.m., and at VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County on Thursday, March 19, from 6:30 until 9 p.m.

In a format that combines lecture, class participation and demonstration, students will learn about working as a voice over artist on projects such as audio books, cartoons, documentaries and commercials.

Attendees will learn what voice overs are, voices that are in demand, what the pros look for, how to prepare, and where to find work in the area. The instructor will discuss industry pros and cons and play samples from working voice professionals. In addition, each participant will have an opportunity to record a short professional script under the direction of the instructor. The class is designed to be upbeat and fun but also to provide a realistic outlook on the voice acting business.

“Getting Paid to Talk” is presented by instructors from Voice Coaches, a national organization specializing in voice over production and education. Their educational team draws on extensive experience in broadcast, film and television, casting, directing, speech and audio production.

The cost of the class is $30.

For either campus, the deadline to register is one week prior to the class. Prospective students can register online at www.vgcc.edu/ped or in person at Main Campus, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
