Every time we use a phone, drive a car, watch TV, turn on our computers, or do myriad everyday activities, we are benefitting from the accumulated work of a most important, broad profession — engineering. To note its contribution to our way of life, this is National Engineers Week. During this time, engineering societies and corporations will reach out to schoolchildren and stage events across the country to call attention to the achievements of the profession. From iPods to bridges to space rockets, engineers apply science, math and principles of matter and energy to provide useful things to us. There are over 58,000 engineering establishments in the U.S., employing close to a million such innovators out of the nearly than 2.2 million people working in engineering fields. You can find more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau online at <www.census.gov>.

Another example of the lack of intelligence over on Graham Ave. as far as deciding to allow students to go to school today when all the MAJOR networks were reporting the weather was coming and was getting worse!!! Kudos to Granville Co. Schools for making an early decision for a 2-hr. Delay and then coming back and cancelling classes altogether. Good ole’ VCS decided what the heck….let the buses roll and what do you think happened? Kids were released by 11:30-11:45 and a bus carrying students from Southern Vance High School was involved in a wreck in which 10 students had to be treated at a local hospital. If the residents of Vance Co. don’t get more “forward thinking” people over on Graham Ave. you will continue to have such fiascos…….the bad thing is that this one could have been avoided!!! I hope your superintendent can sleep well tonight knowing he puts 1000’s of students in danger today having to board buses and ride on roads that were covered in snow/ice!!! SHM……..when will enough be enough? When one loses his/her life due to the reckless decision making? The answer I was given when I called Graham Ave. to question it was that High School students had starting taking some sort of state test yesterday and they didn’t want to have it interrupted anymore than necessary!!!!! Way to go eyesore!!!! I say forget the sorry grades that the majority of the VCS’ got on the DPI Report Card…..give a big FAT “F” to the administrative team!!!! Wake up people!!!! These students belong and matter to someone and you shouldn’t be playing w/their lives!!!
First, I hope the injuries to the school bus riders are not serious than the good Lord. I have to agree with Deception on this one, the decision to have school was not the right one.
Again, I am reminded of the words printed on the blackboard years back–yes, blackboards The Average man has five senses, lucky ones have 2 more, common and horse.
Prudence…evidently the HiH bloggers dont have kids or grandkids who are subject to the possible dangers of riding a bus on snow & ice. Oh well, it speaks volumes when the bloggers dont care about the safety of ALL CHILDREN!!! If you can look in the mirror & feel comfortable knowing children’s lives were put in DANGER for NO GOOD REASON!!! Rest well…..hope you or your loved ones dont ever have to get “that call” saying “the bus carrying your kid was involved in an accident”!!!
Thank you for your concern about Vance County children, Decept. This is in jarring contrast with your regular hateful rants about your neighbor. I bet you’re a joy to live next to.
Publius…….when you hit puberty then return and we can have meaningful dialogue. I have concern for all children….even the ones whose parents only care about them during TAX SEASON!!! Ask my neighbors…..I would dare say they indeed feel like I’m a very good neighbor. I don’t mind helping those who can’t help themselves. Unlike you’re local leadership buddy I do it b/c it’s the right thing to do…..not to pad my ego b/c my accomplishments speak for themselves!!! Rest well…..at least “your” kids didn’t have to be on a bus riding around in the snow and ice today!!! Funny how Vance County is always so “reactive” instead of being “proactive”!!! Guess it comes from that Kool-Aid you drink!!! Do the world a favor…….bend down off your high horse and lend a helping hand to someone in need today instead of bashing bloggers on HiH!!!
So you think you’re a very good neighbor, Decept. I guess that means you only put on the whiny negative act when you blog, hence the name. That makes sense, because if you did that in real life, you’d have been voted off the island long ago. Oh, I’m only bashing one blogger…you.
Publius……for lack of a better analogy bud……”u are the weakest link……good bye”. Enjoy your company……MISERY LOVES IT!!!!!
