RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is partnering with N.C. Dairy Advantage, N.C. Cooperative Extension and N.C. Farm Bureau to hold a dairy workshop on optimizing herd health and animal production through nutrition.

The free workshop will be held Wednesday, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the Iredell County Center in Statesville. Lunch will be provided.

“The dairy industry has a strong history in this state and we want to keep it that way,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler.

The workshop will include information on providing proper nutrition for dairy cattle. Some of the topics covered include dairy wellness, effective use of forage sample analysis, nutrient management testing and application and an update on waste management laws and regulations.

The workshop has been approved for three continuing education credits for the N.C. Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification Commission – Animal Waste System Operator. Also, each farm in attendance may submit one forage sample for complete analysis at no charge. Samples must be submitted on the day of the workshop.
