National Alliance on Mental Illness North Carolina welcomes new affiliate to cover Franklin, Granville, Warren and Vance counties

RALEIGH, NC (April 22, 2015) – The National Alliance on Mental Illness North Carolina (NAMI NC) is pleased to announce a new affiliate, NAMI North Central, a volunteer-run affiliate that covers Franklin, Granville, Warren and Vance counties.

NAMI North Carolina works to improve the lives of people living with mental illness and their families through support, education and advocacy. NAMI North Central will work to achieve this mission in their community through advocating in their local area, increasing awareness of mental illness, and working with individuals, families and veterans.

NAMI operates at three levels–nationally, statewide and locally. NAMI organizations at the local level are called NAMI affiliates–dedicated volunteer grassroots leaders working together to raise awareness and provide essential education, advocacy and support group programs for people living with mental illness and their loved ones. NAMI affiliates address the mental illness needs within their community and work with NAMI North Carolina to ensure fidelity to the NAMI model.

“NAMI North Carolina has been working diligently to develop an affiliate to cover these counties, in addition to trying to strengthen the relationship between NAMI North Carolina and veterans,” said Brenda Piper, Program and Affiliate Development Director, NAMI NC. “Now with this new affiliate, we have both!”

Those interested in joining this new group, or for more information, contact NAMI North Central’s President, Sam Hargrove, at 252-767-6429 or retired.army.2004@gmail.com.
