The six active members of our Board of Commissioners held a special called meeting Tuesday night to discuss a personnel matter in closed session and to finalize the 2014 – 2015 fiscal year budget. There was no formal announcement following the closed door session. There may have been an informal announcement at the conclusion of the almost four hour meeting when the interim county manager said he would no longer be attending commissioners meeting after Friday. Estate of Long-Time VGCC Art Instructor Benefits College, Students
For more than four decades, the name Lelia Brigham was synonymous with Vance-Granville Community College. A continuing education art instructor since practically the beginning of the college in the fall of 1969, Brigham had a longer association with VGCC as an instructor than anyone else prior to her death in December 2014. VGCC officials were recently informed that Brigham’s estate has left the college nearly $400,000, with additional assets pending. Through this bequest, Brigham continues the legacy of learning to …
High School Students study Biotech at VGCC Workshop
Four local high school students participated in the third annual Vance-Granville Community College Biotech Workshop, held over the course of two Saturdays in May. VGCC Bioprocess Technology program head Dr. Tara Hamilton conducted the workshop with assistance from one of her students, Melissa Messner of Wilton. The participating students hailed from South Granville High School, Granville Early College High School, Warren County High School and J.F. Webb High School. Andrew Swanner, Executive Director of Oxford Preparatory School, recently completed the Distinguished Leadership Program (DLP), a year-long leadership development program for practicing school principals designed and provided by the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principal’s Association in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and UNC-LearnNC. Guest speaker discusses Medical Coding as VGCC schedules new program
Vance-Granville Community College hosted a guest speaker in April to discuss careers in Medical Coding, as the college is preparing to offer a new opportunity for training in that field. VGCC Pins Associate Degree Nursing Graduates
Vance-Granville Community College recognized 38 students who graduated this spring from the Associate Degree Nursing program with a pinning ceremony in the college’s Civic Center on May 13. Among those honored with distinctive nursing pins at the ceremonies were eight who graduated through the LPN to ADN Transition Program, which helps Licensed Practical Nurses to continue their education and then become Registered Nurses. NCDOT to Improve 38.2 miles of Roads in Warren County
Raleigh- The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $3.6 million contract to repave and do shoulder reconstruction on 38.2 miles of roads in Warren County. The work will include 11.3 miles of N.C. 58 from the Franklin County line to N.C. 43 and 10.1 miles of N.C. 43 from the Halifax County line to N.C. 58. NCDOT to Improve 20.3 miles of Roads in Vance County
Raleigh- The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $2.8 million contract to do resurfacing and shoulder work on 20.3 miles of roadway in Vance County. The contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corporation of Wilson.
