NCDOT to Improve 38.2 miles of Roads in Warren County


Raleigh- The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $3.6 million contract to repave and do shoulder reconstruction on 38.2 miles of roads in Warren County.

The work will include 11.3 miles of N.C. 58 from the Franklin County line to N.C. 43 and 10.1 miles of N.C. 43 from the Halifax County line to N.C. 58.

Similar work will also take place on the following secondary roads:

•    2.5 miles of Airport Road between U.S. 158 Business and Warren Plains Road;
•    4.4 miles of S.R.1318 from Macon-Embro Road to the end of the state maintenance line, excluding a non-paved section from Church Hill Road to Airport Boulevard;
•    1.2 miles of Mill Creek Drive from Ebony Road to the end of the state maintenance line
•    4.2 miles of North Bottom Road between Axtell Ridgeway Road and Ridgeway Warrenton Road; and
•    4.5 miles of Manson-Axtell Road between Martin Luther king Boulevard and Collins Road

The contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corporation of Wilson.  Work can begin as soon as June 1 and will be completed by April 30, 2016.

The contractor will not close or narrow a lane on N.C. 58 and N.C. 43 on Monday-Friday between 6-9 a.m. and 4-7 p.m.

Lane closures will also be prohibited on holidays or holiday weekends, including New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This is one of 15 road, bridge and rest area projects worth $106 million recently awarded by NCDOT for projects across North Carolina. The contracts were awarded to the lowest pre-qualified bidders, as required by state law. The low bids received were about $2.7 million below NCDOT estimates.
