Congresswoman Renee Ellmers: Celebrating Our Independence

Video of the Week:

Recently, I talked with Neil Cavuto on Fox Business about the recent terrorist attacks overseas & the need for our President to formulate a comprehensive strategy for defeating ISIL. Click here or on the image above to watch the video.

Weekly Update:
This week marked the original deadline for a nuclear “deal” with Iran, which has been extended, yet again, to July 7. Iran is the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism and allowing them any nuclear power is a threat to our national security. Any such “nuclear deal” with Iran should restrict their nuclear capabilities and any agreement made must dismantle their nuclear weapons program. The stakes are too high for a botched arrangement – we must be able to walk away from a bad deal.

On more of a local level, I had the opportunity to visit the N.C. Biotechnology Center in Research Triangle Park this past week. I met with a group of global health leaders about my trip to Guatemala with a nonprofit organization called CARE (Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere). In Guatemala, I witnessed the power of simple and inexpensive health interventions and learned how equipping communities with the tools they need to sustain themselves can reduce our long-term foreign aid costs and create an environment of opportunity for impoverished families. It was a truly inspiring afternoon, and I would like to thank the N.C. Biotechnology Center for hosting me and CARE for such an eye-opening experience.

Finally, Happy 4th of July to the Second District! This great country celebrated its first Independence Day 239 years ago, and I am so proud to be part of such a courageous and faithful nation. The freedoms we enjoy today are only possible because of the service and sacrifices of those made before us. I hope each of you will take time on July Fourth to remember, honor, and celebrate those who have stood on principle to defend our liberty and our freedom.

Local Radio Interviews

I had an opportunity to discuss the recent King vs. Burwell Supreme Court ruling with local radio stations in the Triangle. The King vs. Burwell  Supreme Court case further institutionalized the Affordable Care Act, so I joined both Doug Kellett and Bill LuMaye on WPTF Talk Radio 850 AM last week.

In the District

I was at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center in Research Triangle Park this week to talk with a group of global health leaders about my trip to Guatemala with CARE. I shared with them what I learned from Manuala Tum, a 25-year-old CARE Volunteer Health Worker who teaches mothers about the importance of healthy nutrition.

During this meeting, I shared my experiences where I saw that through simple and inexpensive health interventions, we can reduce our long-term foreign aid costs and create an environment where mothers and fathers want to build a life for their families.

Good News!

Click here or on the image above to see a video highlighting some of the “Good News” coming out of Washington over the past 6 months — now that the Republican majority in the U.S. House finally has a willing partner in the Senate. Here are a few of the bills spotlighted in the video that I voted for — H.R. 1105 Death Tax Repeal Act of 2015; H.R. 2048 USA FREEDOM Act of 2015 (Uniting and Strengthening America by Fulfilling Rights and Ensuring Effective Discipline Over Monitoring Act of 2015); S. 1 Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act; S. 178 Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015; and H.R. 235 Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act.

Happy Independence Day!

I hope you and your family are enjoying a relaxing 4th of July weekend celebrating the freedom we enjoy!
