Does anyone expect an “outsider” will win out over same old same decisions ?
The School Board has announced the name of the new superintendant for schools.
Who is Anthony “Tony” Jackson beyond his bio in the paper?
Will he be moving to Vance County?
Will he make three years?
No photo, and is a 4 year contract standard? A shorter period to begin with would have been advisable in my opinion.
The statement that I will make on this issue is that as long as he doesn’t have any “ties/connections” to any current administration within Vance County Schools that is a PLUS. My last statement on this is too many people(myself included) talk about how poorly Vance County Schools reputation & test scores are but after talking with a teacher whom I hold in high regard is that until you try & teach a group of kids who 1.come to school hungry 2.have never had to show respect or been shown respect/love 3.gets less than 6 hours sleep 4.lives/breaths/eats in “poverty” then you really shouldn’t have a problem. It made me change my perception on VCS and if I can do that then maybe PUBLIUS can show a lil’ compassion.
By the way Publius, I’m still trying to decide what color dress I want to wear on our morning date at Sunrise next Monday. I may just wear some pants…..what time shall we meet? Also, I’m not a big coffee drinker so if you are planning on a prolonged conversation then the food better be good!
I would say the “normal” contract for a Superintendent is in the 3-4 year range. One more positive I forgot to mention is that at least he has a Doctoral Degree. He’s already ahead in one category compared to the former superintendent VCS had. Wish him LUCK….he will need it!!!
Prudence….as fate would have it as far as a picture of the new hire goes all you need to do is visit WRAL.COM. This is the same Anthony Jackson that was the past superintendent of Nash-Rocky Mount Schools & according to the website was “forced out by the will of the Board”. Just when you think elected officials has actually done something that made sense in Vance County……………the bigger question should be when will the voters of Vance County get some “fresh” faces into the Board Room and get rid of the Board Members who don’t have the best interests of the students at heart. I heard directly out of a current principal’s mouth that out of their 10+ years working in Vance County Schools they had never had a Board Member visit their school. How can you understand some of the problems/challenges that the teachers/administrators face if you don’t step foot in the building?
Way to go Vance County…….you made WRAL’s website………again!!!!
Just read the entire article on WRAL.com & almost fell out of my chair reading the quote from VCS Public Information Officer……..nice description of what qualities you would want for anyone in the educational field. It would have looked like a better hire had he not “self admitted” that he was forced out by his past Board of Education. Looks like Vance County has a history of hiring people that other cities/counties have parted ways with. You can’t make this stuff up if you tried!!!!
Deception you let me down. I thought while you were digging in Tony’s history you might check out his PhD credentials. His PhD is from Walden University an online learning process, not an accredited academically rigorous educational process. One process picks the student’s PhD research topic; in the other process the students develops their own original research topic.
Is Mr. Jackson an example of the best and brightest who allied for the job?
You have to hand it to this Board of Education–they are nothing if not predictable and consistent–this is a shame in my opinion.
