With the nation’s average warmest day of the year coming up tomorrow, many of us welcome ducking into a cool office, business, or home. For this relief, we can thank Willis Carrier, who in the depths of winter in 1906 received a patent for what he called an “apparatus for treating air.” His idea has changed the way many Americans live and where they might comfortably do so. He launched his own company 100 years ago this month, and the Carrier name is still prominent among air-conditioning manufacturers. The invention did not come into widespread use until after World War II. Even by 1965, only 10 percent of homes in the U.S. were equipped, and just 2.8 million window air conditioners were manufactured that year. Today, 91 percent of all new, single-family houses in the U.S. are air-conditioned. You can find more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau online at <www.census.gov>.

Congratulation to Frank Frazier on his appointed to city manager. The city council announced his appointment during this evening’s short special called meeting. Frank has had a long career with the city so his honeymoon will probably last until next month. Not one candidate for city council or mayor attended the 5pm meeting except the incumbents.
Yesterday the school board introduced Anthony Jackson as the new school superintendent. That completes two out of the three big management changes in local government and the school system.
Vance County still has not found the right candidate for the county manager position. This morning the commissioners held another in their long running series of special called meeting to enter closed session to discuss a personal mater. Those attending this morning’s commissioners meeting wondered if today was to be selection day. Alas, that did not happen. Instead another candidate for county manager was observed entering the closed session wearing an age appropriate interview suit. Based on observation the commissioners have interviewed eight to ten candidates none are known to have had follow-up interviews.
Mikey…..I think you hit the nail on the head with the honeymoon period. Have you seen the list of people who have decided to run for some of the city council seats? Does Henderson residents not care about their city? With the history of missteps from all 3 governing bodies within Vance County(Board of Education,County Commissioners,City Council) the list of people lining up to take their positions should be longer than the line @ Walmart. Qualified candidates? Where are you? Oxford & Granville County smile each & every time their is an election in Vance County!!
Decept: Other than giving you a chance to be snide, what was the purpose of your post?
No purpose…….just wondering why the citizens are satisfied with the “status quo”. Human nature usually makes people do something when they get mad…..evidently you are happy with the same ole’…same ole’!!!
