On August 5 2015, Vance County Commissioner Tommy Hester reported alarmingly in the Dispatch that State Senator Harry Brown’s proposed sales tax redistribution “scheme” will cost Vance County $200,000 next year.
On August 4, the day before Hester made his proclamation, the State Senate, in a final 34-12 vote, approved Senator Brown’s sales tax proposal.
According to the Fiscal Research Division of the NC General Assembly, under Senator Brown’s legislation, Vance County’s sales tax revenue is projected to increase 3% in FY 2016-17, 2% in FY 2017-18, 2% in FY 2018-19, and 2% in FY 2019-20. It appears that Vance County will gain, not lose, under Brown’s legislation.
Was Hester misinformed…misunderstood…misleading? Perhaps he was miselected!
Rusty McMahon
Rusty….does that surprise you? If you’ve paid attention to the elected officials in Henderson/Vance area over the past 15-20 years you will notice that this is the “norm”.
I also read my online edition of the Henderson Daily Dispatch today and I see that Clarence Dale is running for the City Council Seat in Ward 1. The paper claims he is running his campaign on “unity”. That was a funny way to describe his campaign b/c it seems as if every time a situation arises in Vance County whether it be with the Police Dept. or recently the issues w/Head Start he is brought into those situations and “unity” isn’t the word that anyone who witnessed him in action at that last Head Start mtg. would use to describe his actions. Good Luck to him……but if this is the best that Henderson/Vance has to run for elected positions is their any wonder why your City/County are the laughingstock that is has become?
Where are all the more qualified candidates?
Deception, all the qualified candidates moved….to Youngsville, Creedmoor, & Wake Forest to escape that hell hole.
JTF….Careful How u say that b/c Publius will be attacking ur posts!!! & I’d feel abandoned….kinda like lots of houses in Vance Co.
Rusty….I see that Tommy Hester wrote a letter to the Editor in Tuesday’s edition of the Daily Dispatch. Evidently he either reads HiH or someone told him that you had “called him out” on his figures. Regardless of how he got the info. that you had caught him “with his facts down” I find it funny that he was so quick to offer an explanation. If only they were so quick to act on other issues such as unemployment, dilapidated houses, crime, drugs, B&E’s, and the revolving door at the Court House. Certainly they can contact the District Atty. and ask why someone with 45+ arrests for larceny can’t be given a residence over on Breckenridge St. for a couple months/years so that the few businesses that remain don’t have to worry about her coming in and stealing from them on a daily basis!! That would be “PROGRESS” and then if the elected officials were “caught with their facts down” they could at least show some things that they’ve done positively. I guess that makes too much sense.
One more thing I forgot to point out Rusty is that have you noticed that when elected officials are called out on their inaccurate “facts” they will fight tooth and nail w/someone that they think they know more about govt. than the person who “outs” them? However, whenever I you seem to post anything about the “facts” being misleading or incorrect they simply issue a letter to the editor trying to explain why they “got caught with their facts down”!!! Kudos to you for having the intestinal fortitude to call it like you see it. I know it’s not easy being a target on HiH…especially when you have FACTUAL INFORMATION that the public at large doesn’t either know about or care about. I used to get it all the time from some of the more ‘colorful’ bloggers. It’s lessened some over time but I’m sure they’ll be back before too long.
JJ…..give it about 2-3 more weeks and I hear your internet casinos will be back open for business and you can get back on HiH and ramble!!!!
henderson has gone to the dogs. now you have to pay for the news paper. on fix income. COME ON
I’m sorry, I didn’t know the newspaper was a constitutional right that should be provided to you by tax payers or given to you by a for profit company at a loss to their revenue.
You’ve always had to pay for the dispatch. Or did they provide copies to those on low income and now they dont?
