Students Selected to N.C. Honors Choruses

A student at Northern Vance High School and two students at Eaton-Johnson Middle School have been selected to participate in the prestigious state honors choruses.

Noah Whittacre, a senior at Northern Vance High School, has been selected to the 2015 North Carolina Music Educators’ Association High School Honors Chorus.

He was one of only 178 students selected for the chorus.

There were over 1,200 high school students from across the state who participated in the solo auditions in late September.  Those students selected for the state chorus represent 95 high schools. The chorus will perform under the direction of Dr. Eric Nelson of Emory University, at the 2015 N.C. Music Educators’ Convention on Sunday, November 8, in the Stevens Center Auditorium at the N.C. School of Arts in Winston-Salem.

Whittacre is the son of Dan and Joanna Whittacre of Henderson.

Robert and Jackson Hopper were selected to the 2015 N.C. Music Educators’ Association Middle School Honors Chorus. Robert, an eighth grader (shown at right in the attached photo), and Jackson, a seventh grader, are brothers and were two of only 145 students selected to the statewide chorus. More than 1,200 middle school students auditioned in late September for the prestigious chorus.This is the second consecutive year the Hoppers have been selected to the state honors chorus.

They will join other chorus members in performing under the direction of Dr. Hilary Apfelastadt of the University of Toronto, on November 8 at the association’s convention.

Robert and Jackson Hopper are the sons of Mark and Sharon Hopper of Henderson.
