Forestry Field Day November 4th, 2015

On November 4th, the local Cooperative Extension office will hold a Forestry Field Day. Participants will have an opportunity to visit two local tree farms that are models of sound forest management. The tour will showcase forest management strategies such as thinning and prescribed burning which can help landowners maximize the growth and value of their trees. These practices also provide tremendous benefits to other natural resources such as wildlife and native plants. Whether you own 10 acres or 100 acres or more, the event will provide valuable information plus an opportunity to network with other landowners and forestry experts. The day will begin at 10:30 am with a tour of a tree farm near Kittrell. Next, the tour will move to Louisburg for a sponsored lunch at Johnny Bull’s Restaurant, with presentations from local forestry professionals. The third and final stop will highlight a second tree farm near Franklinton. This event is being sponsored by the Vance and Franklin County offices of Cooperative Extension, in partnership with the local offices of the NC Forest Service. There is no charge, but space is limited and advanced registration is required. To do so, contact the Vance County Extension Center at 252-48-8188.
