Congresswoman Renee Ellmers:Honoring Our Veterans

Photo of the Week

It was an honor and a privilege for my office to work with Veterans Legacy Foundation to help Oscar Davis, Jr. receive the Bronze Star he earned while serving with the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment during WWII. This photo is from the award ceremony honoring him this week at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum Foundation in Fayetteville. More photos from the ceremony can be found below.

Weekly Update
One of my greatest joys and highest honors is to represent the noble men and women stationed at Fort Bragg. Veterans Day is just one day set aside to pay our respects to those who have served and allows us to pay tribute to the many who continue to serve us overseas. I am grateful for their selflessness and the sacrifices they have made in order to keep us safe and protected here at home. God bless these men and women.

There were many Veterans Day celebrations that took place around the Second District this week, including a parade in Asheboro and a touching Veterans Day ceremony held in Harnett County. The front lawn of the Airborne and Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville was even decked out with flags in honor of our service members. I hope you will scroll down to see a few snapshots taken from around NC-02 to celebrate Veterans Day.

To further honor our military members, the Governor’s Office held a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony to celebrate the new NC Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. This facility will make such a difference in working to assist our military communities including Fort Bragg, Camp Lejeune and the thousands of veterans who call our great state “home.” This facility will assist both active duty personnel and veterans in finding jobs, acquiring benefits and will be a resource that is ready and able to assist our men and women as they return home.

Please let me know how our office can better serve you. Feel free to email us or call our Asheboro, Dunn or D.C. offices to speak with a representative of our office.

Celebrating Veterans Day in the 2nd District

The front lawn of the Airborne and Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville (shown above) was filled with flags in honor of Veterans Day.  What a beautiful sight!

Above, Mr. Davis is pictured with John Elskamp of the Veterans Legacy Foundation. My office had the privilege of working to help Mr. Davis obtain his medals from his service during WWII. His medals can be seen below!

A representative from my office attended the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony of the newly created N.C. Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (shown above and below).

Governor Pat McCrory and nearly 200 veterans and service members celebrated the opening at the Seaboard Building on Salisbury Street Tuesday morning.

Below are a few photos from the Veterans Day Parade in Asheboro.

Requesting A Congressional Hearing

I joined Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz in writing a letter to Chairman Upton and Ranking Member Pallone, encouraging the House Committee on Energy and Commerce to hold a hearing on H.R. 3339, the PALS Act. Given the conflicting breast cancer screening recommendations in existence to date, a discussion hosted by the Committee among patient groups and experts could alleviate confusion. For more information about the PALS Act, read my full statement here.
