N.C. pecan growers to meet in Greenville March 5

The N.C. Pecan Growers Association will hold its annual conference March 5 at the Pitt County Cooperative Extension office in Greenville.

The event is open to current pecan growers and those interested in learning more about pecan production in the state. The meeting includes workshops and an orchard tour.

Dr. Lenny Wells, a pecan horticultural specialist at the University of Georgia, will discuss varieties and successful production practices. Other pecan production and business topics will be covered, including crop growth and management, food safety, potential grant procurement and information on the pending Federal Marketing Order for Pecans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The educational sessions will be followed by a catered lunch and a visit to a nearby orchard for hands-on demonstrations and networking.

Registration is $20 before Feb. 20, and $25 after that date. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Pitt County Cooperative Extension office at 403 Government Circle, Suite 2, in Greenville.
