Eighteen local educators have completed their participation in the prestigious Vance County Teacher Executive Institute (TEI) for 2015-2016.

They were each honored at the TEI graduation and dinner on March 17, at the Henderson Country Club.

The educators had completed four all-day sessions mostly focusing on communication with local business representatives about how to best prepare students for the future workforce. They also toured several businesses, visited Maria Parham M…edical Center and public service agencies and participated in team building activities and a professional development workshop.

They were praised for their efforts by Marie Smith, featured speaker for the evening who is the 2015-2016 Northeast Region Teacher of the Year. She teaches at Conway Middle School in Northampton County.

Smith encouraged the educators to be proud of their accomplishments and their dedication to such an important profession. She talked about her own experiences as a teacher for over 20 years and how much she still enjoys working with her students every day.

Each of the TEI graduates was presented with a handsome, framed certificate for completion of the leadership program.

The Vance County Teacher Executive Institute is presented each year by the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce and the Vance County Public School Foundation. Vance County Schools is one of approximately 20 local organizations and individuals who support TEI each year.
