Vance County Schools Honoring Academic Success Event

Vance County Schools hosted its first “Honoring Academic Success” event on the evening of Tuesday, May 10, for students who are among the top 10 percent of graduates in the Class of 2016 from the four local high schools.
Approximately 225 people attended the event held in the gallery of McGregor Hall on Breckenridge Street in downtown Henderson.
The 48 outstanding graduates were joined by their parents and close relatives, school system officials, school administrators and local community leaders at the formal dinner. They enjoyed a dinner of prime rib and baked chicken, with assorted vegetables, as they sat at beautifully decorated tables complete with black and white linen tablecloths, fresh cut flowers and candles.
The audience was entertained before the dinner by the Viking Voices show choir, under the direction of Cindy Clark, from Northern Vance High School, and the Raider Chorus, under the direction of Kareka Thomas, from Southern Vance High School. Mark Hopper, music director at First Baptist Church of Henderson, provided dinner music on keyboards.
