Congresswoman Renee Ellmers: A Better Way to Fix Health Care

Photo of the Week

It’s time to break out your beach chair and fire up the grill because as of Monday it is officially Summer!  As you can see here, the Second District is in full bloom.

Weekly Update

I am so happy that our Second District Art Competition winner, Shannon Kelly, was able to attend the formal reception hosted in honor of the winners. She and her mother were able to celebrate Shannon’s accomplishment with the other Art Competition winners from around the country.  In addition to the reception, the mother-daughter duo were able to see where Shannon’s drawing will be displayed on Capitol Hill.

Also this week, the House made huge strides as we put forth our formal plan to repeal and replace Obamacare. Having served as a nurse, I know how detrimental Obamacare has been to patients and families and the severe impact it has had on our economy. I decided to run for office in 2010 after hearing about the president’s proposed takeover of our healthcare system, and as a member of the House Doctors Caucus and the Republican Study Committee, my colleagues and I have worked to replace Obamacare with patient-centered reforms. The plan put forward by House Republicans this week gives every American that reality.

Our plan returns power to patients and their doctors, giving them the opportunity to make healthcare decisions as opposed to the government making them. This proposal is bigger than just a replacement bill – it’s a conservative, long-term vision that will be used to guide decisions as we make substantive reforms to our nation’s healthcare system. Second District Constituents in Washington

Shannon Kelly, our incredibly talented 2016 Congressional Art Competition winner for the 2nd District, and her mother stopped by the office while in Washington Thursday to attend a reception honoring the winners.

Shannon, a student at Green Hope High School, won for her work titled “Playground.” For this photo, she used graphite to portray a distance piece of a child’s play set. Congratulations again, Shannon!

Capitol tours are one of the services my office provides to constituents visiting Washington. This week we had two families from Sanford — the Hogan and Bergin families — taking Capitol tours. Here are a couple of photos of them getting ready (after the kids had loaded up on NC peanuts and Famous Amos cookies) and heading out for their tour. If you are visiting Washington this summer, please contact my office if you would like a tour of the Capitol.

Repeal and Replace Plan

The House Republicans’ plan to replace Obamacare is now available at better.gop.gov. This commonsense, patient and doctor-centered plan includes:

• More choices and lower costs. Our plan gives you more control and more choices so that you can pick the plan that meets your needs—not Washington’s mandates.
• Real protections and peace of mind. Our plan makes sure that you never have to worry about being turned away or having your coverage taken away—regardless of age, income, medical conditions, or circumstances.
• Cutting-edge cures and treatments. Our plan clears out the bureaucracy to accelerate the development of life-saving devices and therapies.
• A stronger Medicare. Our plan protects Medicare for today’s seniors and preserves the program for future generations.

Our Very Own Girl Scout

Stephanie joined our office this week in D.C. through the Girl Scout Congressional Aide Program. She has been a Girl Scout since she was 5 years old, and our office was very grateful for her assistance this week. Stephanie is a recent high school graduate who will be attending UNC-G this fall to study human biology and minor in public health. She has volunteered as an EMT for last two years while also making time to be a caregiver for a family friend. Her mother was born and raised in Fayetteville and her grandfather was stationed at Fort Bragg — making her the perfect fit for our NC02 office. Stephanie has been an awesome addition to our Team this week as she has assisted in giving Capitol Tours to constituents, answered phone calls and attended briefings on behalf of staff.
