VGCC invites high school seniors to FAFSA Days

Vance-Granville Community College is holding events at all four of its campuses to offer free help to local high school seniors and their families with applying for financial aid. The U.S. Department of Education recently made the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available for the 2017-2018 year, so students can complete this important form earlier than in years past.

The FAFSA Days will be held on Tuesday, October 18, from 1 to 7 p.m. at VGCC’s Franklin County Campus (near Louisburg) in the library in Building 1; Wednesday, October 19, from 1 to 7 p.m. at South Campus (between Butner and Creedmoor) in Room 1125; Thursday, October 20, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Warren County Campus (Warrenton) in Building 4; and Tuesday, October 25, from 1 to 7 p.m. on the college’s Main Campus (near Henderson) in Room 7322 in Building 7.

FAFSA forms are the standard forms required for federal and state need-based aid and for consideration for many other scholarships and grant opportunities. High school seniors, as well as returning VGCC students, who plan to attend college anywhere starting in fall 2017 are encouraged to attend any of these VGCC events.

Prior to attending a FAFSA event, each student and one parent are encouraged to apply for an FSA ID at fsaid.ed.gov.

When completing the FAFSA, applicants will use information from their 2015 federal tax returns. That is also a change from previous years. Currently, FAFSA applicants provide income information from the “prior tax year,” but beginning with the 2017-18 FAFSA, they will provide income information from one year earlier.
