First Day of Classes at E.M. Rollins Elementary School.
The 2017-2018 school year officially began on August 1, with the first day of classes at E.M. Rollins Elementary School. Approximately 400 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade will be attending the STEAM Academy at E.M. Rollins, which operates this year as the first year-round school in our public school system. Watercolor class offered at VGCC Main Campus
Artist Stephen Filarsky of Franklinton will teach a Watercolor class at Vance-Granville Community College’s Main Campus this fall. The class is scheduled for Tuesdays from 9:15 a.m. until 12:15 p.m., Sept. 5 through Dec. 12, in room 5224 (Building 5). While Filarksy will be concentrating on watercolor techniques, he will also be instructing students in whatever additional medium in which they would like to work. Early College Student Computer Deployment
Laptop computers for Early College High School students will be given out on Monday, July 31, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the school located on the top floor of Building 2 on the campus of Vance-Granville Community College near Henderson. VGCC Completes Renovation of Histotechnology Lab
A laboratory has been renovated to house the new Histotechnology program on Vance-Granville Community College’s Main Campus, the VGCC Board of Trustees was informed at its Monday, July 17, bi-monthly meeting. The renovation, which cost $15,230, was part of a project covering miscellaneous repairs and renovations on the college campus between Henderson and Oxford, according to Trustee Donald C. VGCC Receives High National Rankings
Vance-Granville Community College was recently recognized by a national organization as one of the top ten community colleges in North Carolina, and by another organization as one of the top 20 two-year colleges in the state for online programs. In addition, three of the college’s degree programs have been spotlighted with high rankings, as well. Vance County Schools held its annual Retirement Banquet for those educators and support staff members who retired during the 2016-2017 school year. The event was held in the McGregor Hall Gallery with approximately 150 people in attendance. North Carolina Central University, Vance-Granville Community College Launch Program for Early Childhood Teachers and Specialists
The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Department of Human Sciences and Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC) have signed an agreement to offer two education-related bachelor’s degree programs on the community college campus in Henderson, N.C. NCCU will provide the second two years of study at VGCC for students with Associate in Applied Science degrees, as well as provide support services and access to NCCU’s resources, such as the Shepard Library on campus. Keith Purnell, a school bus driver for Northern Vance High School and E.M. Rollins Elementary School, placed seventh in the state in the annual N.C. School Bus Rodeo held in Raleigh on May 25. Vance County Schools supports Project Child Find, an effort coordinated by our schools and the Exceptional Children Division of the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. E.M. Rollins Elementary Stop Hunger Project
The Student Council of E. M. Rollins Elementary, under the direction of Antoinette Ball, a teacher and Student Council adviser, spearheaded a year-long service project which raised over $3,000. The proceeds were donated to Rise Against Hunger, a non-profit humanitarian relief organization headquartered in Raleigh. The partnership with Rise Against Hunger was the result of students wanting to learn by doing and wanting to demonstrate service leadership. VGCC pins Associate Degree Nursing graduates
Vance-Granville Community College recognized 41 students who graduated this spring from the Associate Degree Nursing program with a pinning ceremony in the college’s Civic Center on May 10. Eleven cadets graduated on May 16 from the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at Vance-Granville Community College, in a ceremony held in the Civic Center on Main Campus. A total of 48 students in the Class of 2017 graduated on May 26 from the Vance County Early College High School. Their commencement ceremony was held before a packed crowd in the Civic Center at Vance-Granville Community College near Henderson.
