VGCC offers Medical Terminology on Main Campus
Vance-Granville Community College is now registering students for Medical Terminology, the first of four courses required for the Medical Coding certificate program. Classes will be held on VGCC’s Main Campus on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6 until 9 p.m., Jan. 18 through May 7. The Terminology course is the introduction to the language of medicine. Students learn to pronounce, spell and define medical terms related to anatomy, physiology, pathological conditions, diagnostic testing and medical procedures. Four courses are required …

Vance-Granville Community College is now registering students for the Introduction to Nurse Aide and Nurse Aide Level I (CNA I) courses, which are scheduled to start soon at the college’s Franklin County Campus. Several upcoming classes have been scheduled at Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus near Louisburg, giving area residents opportunities to learn new skills for personal or workplace use. The “Beginner’s Guide to Computers & Internet” is set to be offered on both a daytime and an evening schedule. The Vance County Appearance Commission will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, in the conference room off the main hallway of the Vance County Administrative offices (old courthouse) on Young Street in Henderson. Seniors at Southern and Northern Vance high schools are being accepted at colleges and universities across the state to further their education after they graduate in June. North Carolina Wins Race to the Top—Early Learning Challenge Grant
Gov. Bev Perdue announces that North Carolina won a Race to the Top—Early Learning Challenge grant from the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. North Carolina was among nine winners chosen from 37 applicants competing for a share of $500 million. VGCC Graduates 12 Law Enforcement Cadets in School’s 93rd BLET Class
Twelve cadets graduated on Dec. 13, 2011 from the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) course at Vance-Granville Community College, in a ceremony held in the Civic Center on Main Campus. After passing the state certification exam, all are authorized to work in any law enforcement agency in North Carolina. This class, VGCC’s 93rd BLET graduating class overall, boasted a 100 percent passing rate on the exam on their first attempt. Vance County Schools – Laws for Motorists for Stopped School Buses
The Vance County Schools’ Transportation Department is joining with state school bus safety officials in reminding all motorists to stop for stopped school buses when they are loading and unloading students on city streets, county roadways, in parking lots and on school campuses. VGCC students donate books, coats to local elementary school
The Student North Carolina Association of Educators (SNCAE) chapter at Vance-Granville Community College recently completed a service project to collect books and new or gently used winter coats for children at South Warren Elementary School in Warrenton. Through the drive, VGCC students collected a total of 270 books and 18 coats. The Culinary Arts program at Vance-Granville Community College continued a holiday tradition by holding its third annual Gingerbread House competition on Dec. 2. Chef Ross Ragonese, who heads the VGCC program, has used the competition as a fun, challenging exercise for his second-year students near the end of each fall semester since 2009. Vance-Granville Community College hosted admissions representatives from four-year colleges and universities on Dec. 1 in Building 6 on its main campus. The event was VGCC’s annual College Day, in which students obtain important information about transfer requirements, financial aid and scholarships that can help them continue their education. Dr. Stelfanie Williams, currently the Vice President of Economic and Community Development at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, has been chosen by the Vance-Granville Community College Board of Trustees to be the next president of the college.
