Vance County Teachers Recieve Certificates from National Board of Professional Teaching Standards
Seven educators in Vance County Schools have earned certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) and two more local educators have obtained recertification. Information on the national certification was released today by NBPTS. VGCC offers BioWork training program at night on Main Campus
Vance-Granville Community College has scheduled a “BioWork” Process Technician training course to prepare area residents for jobs in the growing biotechnology manufacturing field, starting in January on the college’s main campus in Vance County. BioWork will be held in the state-of-the-art biotechnology lab on Main Campus on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 until 10 p.m., beginning Wednesday, Jan. 18 and continuing through Monday, May 7, 2012. VGCC announces new options for High School students to take college courses
Vance-Granville Community College is preparing to offer new options for area high school students to get college credits, tuition-free, as part of a new statewide program. The “Career & College Promise” program comes into effect Jan. 1, 2012. This new umbrella program consolidates and replaces the various high school-college partnership programs that previously existed. CCP offers three pathways for eligible high school-age students. Mary H. McMannen of Oxford, an Accounting Technician in the Business Office at Vance-Granville Community College, was recently honored by her peers in education. On Oct. 28, McMannen received the Lula M. Burrell Educational Office Professional of the Year award from the North Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals District 10. The district includes Granville, Vance, Warren, Wake, and Franklin counties. As the district winner, McMannen now advances to the statewide competition along with honorees from the 13 other districts. …

E.M. Rollins Elementary School will be featured as the “Cool School for the Day” tomorrow, Friday, November 18, at 6:50 a.m. on the local television station NBC 17. NC Selected To Participate In National Teacher Effectiveness Policy Effort
North Carolina is one of three states and one territory to be selected to participate in a national teacher effectiveness policy effort. The National Governors Association (NGA) has announced that North Carolina – along with Colorado, Nevada and Guam – will be a contributor to the State Strategies to Evaluate Teacher Effectiveness Policy Academy. Vance County Board of Commissioners and Board of Education Initiate Joint Meetings
The Education Committees of the Vance County Board of Education and the Vance County Board of Commissioners will hold a Joint Meeting on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. in the Vance County Schools Administrative Services Center Main Conference Room at 1724 Graham Avenue Henderson, N. C. 27536. The purpose of the meeting is to begin a dialogue between both Boards on the needs of our schools. The Education Committees will continue to meet on a quarterly basis.

Mock trial gives VGCC Criminal Justice students courtroom experience
Students in the Criminal Justice Technology program at Vance-Granville Community College recently took what they have been learning in the classroom into a simulated real-world setting through a “mock trial” exercise.
