Oxford Prep Middle School jumps into Softball with an undefeated inaugural season
The Griffin’s Middle School softball team finished their inaugural season unbeaten. “We are very proud of this team. We go from not being certain if we have enough interest to actually have enough play, to having a history making season,” says Head coach Joe Don Cooper. Free athletic physical examinations will be available to all student-athletes who live in Vance County on Wednesday, June 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Maria Parham Medical Center on Ruin Creek Road in Henderson. The Northern Vance High School men’s soccer team for the seventh consecutive year received a High School Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with the fourth highest grade point average among the 152 teams receiving national recognition for the award for the 2014-2015 school year. On Wednesday, January 27, the College held its annual Scholar-Athletes Awards Program, honoring 139 student-athletes.The program was held in the Roger G. Taylor Athletic Center prior to the men’s basketball game against Wake Tech. The Hurricanes Scholar-Athletes Awards Program was established at Louisburg College in 2005 to encourage student-athletes at Louisburg to be scholar-athletes. Inaugural volleyball tournament expected to bring $700,000 to Raleigh region
The inaugural City of Oaks Challenge volleyball tournament at the Raleigh Convention Center debuts this Saturday (Jan. 16), and runs through the holiday weekend. According to the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, the event will feature 141 teams playing on 20 courts in the Raleigh Convention Center’s 150,000-square-foot exhibit hall. The City of Oaks Challenge is expected to generate approximately 2,200 hotel room-nights and $700,000 in direct visitor spending.
