Morehead and GSK partner to bring free summer science camp to Henderson for Level III
June 16 @ 1:00 pm - June 18 @ 4:00 pmFree
Morehead Planetarium & Science Center is once again partnering with GSK to present GSK Science in the Summer™, a free program aimed at providing high-quality science education to North Carolina. Science in the Summer works to prevent what is known as the ‘summer slide,’ when students forget what they learned from the school year in the summer.
The program is comprised of week-long, half-day summer camps led by certified teachers for students in grades 2-8. Camps for children in grades 6-8 will feature more hands-on science exploration, engineering design, and access to the Science on Your Street vehicle. Each year there is a different theme. This year’s theme is “The Science of Space.”
2018’s theme is The Science of Space. Launch into an in-depth exploration of space by examining specific characteristics of our solar system and beyond through interactive activities and experiments. Discover the ancient astronomy used before today’s advanced technology was created and investigate planetary bodies and extrasolar planets. Become more familiar with our closest neighbor in space, the Earth’s Moon and examine how we define a moon, its surface features, and how astronauts prepared and completed their missions to the Moon. Understand galaxies, define our galactic address, and discover the importance of technology in our quest into unknown and often dangerous territory by building a model spacecraft. Join us as we take a fun-filled journey through the universe!
Science in the Summer is taking place right in your neighborhood at Perry Memorial Library spots are still available in both sessions. Find out more about Science in the Summer and how to register at http://moreheadplanetarium.
Venue: Perry Memorial Library
Registrations for Level III opened on 13 March, 2018.
