The Commissioners’ agenda includes an appointment regarding Brownfields Grant Applications. This is the same item that was tabled during the October 24, special meeting. Apparently Mr. Darin McClure, Vice President, Principle Engineer for Mid-Atlantic Associates had a meeting on March 31, 2011, with someone representing Vance County. According to Mr. McClure, “Vance County appears to be a good candidate for such [Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act (Brownfields Law)] funding.” I looked and did not find any public mention of the meeting between the County and Mid-Atlantic Associates or Mr. McClure. Is anyone aware if there is any public information regarding such a meeting?
Only one Commissioner had no questions or concerns on the Brownfield Grant Applications when first presented at October 24 special meeting. Now that everyone has had an opportunity to read Mid-Atlantic’s proposal are they any questions?
Am I correct in reading that the purpose of the Brownfields Law is for the American taxpayers (aka government) to cover the cost of assessing environmental contamination of “idle or under-utilized properties” so developers avoid that cost? Look at the list of 16 parcels identified as Potential Brownfield Sites.
Am I correct to understand that contracts between the County and service providers are granted on a low bid basis? Who else was interviewed by the Count? Is this the lowest or only bidder?
201 Zene Street, owned by the DDC, where the REEF project was being planned to be built, is a potential brownfield site?
