Vance-Granville Community College’s 29th annual Endowment Fund Golf Tournament generated approximately $35,420 from entry fees and from sponsors to help fund scholarships for deserving students and support the mission of the college. State Farmers Market to host Crawfish Day June 8
RALEIGH — Vendors at the State Farmers Market offer local produce, meats and cheeses throughout the year, but the best time for locally raised crawfish is Crawfish Day. The annual event, sponsored by the N.C. Crawfish Growers Association, will be held Saturday, June 8. N.C. crawfish are raised in earthen ponds from the Piedmont to the coast, and the season runs from the end of May to mid-July. Last year, crawfish growers raised about 9,000 pounds of crawfish. Dominique Marie Johnson Arrested on Cocaine Charges
On Wednesday, May 29, 2013, members of the Henderson Police Department Special Operations Division arrested Dominique Marie Johnson, 26, of 233 E. Andrews Avenue, Henderson. Johnson was charged with one count of trafficking cocaine, one count of possession with the intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver cocaine, maintain a dwelling for keeping a controlled substance and possession of heroin. N.C. Zoo sets Memorial Day Weekend attendance record
Spurred by idyllic weather, the return of a polar bear and a highly popular dinosaur exhibit, the N.C. Zoo in Asheboro set a new attendance record over the Memorial Day weekend. This past weekend’s three-day total of 37,165 visitors shattered the previous Memorial Day weekend record of 32,732 set in May 2008 by nearly 5,000 people. State Farmers Market open regular hours June 2
RALEIGH — Visitors to the State Farmers Market on Sunday morning should plan to take an alternate route, as Lake Wheeler Road will be closed temporarily for Raleigh’s first-ever Ironman 70.3 competition. Homeland begins third season in Charlotte, films in Raleigh next week
Principle photography is officially underway in North Carolina on Showtime’s award-winning series Homeland. Crews for the series have been spotted at several uptown Charlotte locations this week. Based in Charlotte, the series has previously filmed in the Queen City as well as Concord, Gastonia, Kings Mountain, Mooresville, and Salisbury. Raleigh’s Safety & Clean Ambassadors work together to make the downtown area an attractive place to live, work or visit. Clean Ambassadors are responsible for maintaining the appearance of public pedestrian areas downtown in Raleigh. The Safety Ambassadors assist visitors, workers, and residents by providing maps, guides, directions, and information about restaurants and other attractions.
