Vance-Granville Community College will offer an Art class focused on Portrait Painting on Wednesdays from 1:45 p.m. until 4:45 p.m., Feb. 5 through April 8. Classes will be held in room 5230 (Building 5) on the college’s main campus in Vance County.

Instructor Leslie Johnson of Oxford said that new students are sometimes reluctant to try portrait painting. “But when they work at it and find they can do it, they find it rewarding and don’t want to stop,” she said. Johnson paints portraits professionally and has taught portrait painting at Vance-Granville for more than a decade.

Johnson added that complete beginners are welcome to participate in her classes, and more experienced painters are quick to help the newcomers. Johnson’s goal is for each student to complete at least one oil portrait by the time he or she completes the course.

The cost of the class is $70, and the deadline to register is Jan. 26.

Registration for these or other Personal Enrichment courses can be completed online at www.vgcc.edu/ped or in person at Main Campus, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
