Learn to Grow Shiitake Mushrooms

Shiitake Mushrooms can be grown successfully in piedmont North Carolina. Shiitake mushrooms are the second most eaten mushrooms and are popular because of their rich meaty flavor and texture that consumers like and have a longer shelf life than button mushrooms.  Some scientific studies suggest that shiitake mushrooms provide medicinal effects like reducing cholesterol levels, fighting viruses, cancer, and boosting the immune system.  According to D. Wayne Rowland, Agricultural and Natural Resources Technician with NC Cooperative Extension, Vance County Center, the Shiitake Mushroom Production meeting has been scheduled for Monday, December 19, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. at the Vance County Regional Farmers Market located at 210 Southpark Drive in Henderson.
