Trashing a good idea

In light of this morning’s discussion on “Town Talk” on WIZS-AM (1450), we feel the need to revisit the question of curbside garbage collection, if only briefly (we’ll get to the recycling program soon, we promise).

Callers to the radio program, including City Council member Mary Emma Evans, decried the very idea of making Henderson’s senior citizens try to roll 90-gallon garbage bins to the side of the road or swallow their pride and ask for help from the city or neighbors. We also heard complaints about the stench and mess from cutting pickup back to once a week, creating a feast for the roving packs of dogs in Henderson.

We knew Henderson was a special place, but we never realized how special. Apparently, Henderson not only is the home of Kerr Lake, but the world’s exclusive home of dogs, hot weather and feeble old people. That’s why curbside garbage pickup is standard in so many thriving communities but unthinkable here.

That said, we’d like to ask one final question before we consign what seemed like a no-brainer proposal to the great landfill in the sky: Do we protect our fixed-income senior citizens more by grabbing their garbage in the back yard, regardless of their ability to get the trash to the street, or by finding a way for the city to take less of their money, as much as $120 a year? actuarial loanamortization site loan addloan process construction administrationhome adoption loan subsidyhomes loans family adultloan payday cash day same advancelanguage loan cash en advanceloan cash advance ky Map
