Art show winners announced at Blackout


Jennifer Madriaga, the executive director of the Vance County Arts Council, announced the winners of an anti-crime-themed art contest during Saturday’s Blackout Arts Festival. The artwork is on display through the end of this week at the Gateway Center.

The winners in the secondary school competitions, all of whom received cash prizes:

High school
1st place — Shelba Eaton, Southern Vance

Middle school (with art teacher)
1st place — DeCarlos Macon, Vance Charter (who later won a $100 door prize)
2nd place — Caitlin Cockrell, Vance Charter
3rd place — Ben Oakley, Vance Charter

Middle school (without art teacher)
1st place — Amelia Harms and Morgan Baskett, Eaton-Johnston
2nd place — Janecia Hargrove, Eaton-Johnston
3rd place — Cody Grissom and Shenauia Davis, Eaton-Johnston
