Guest post: Prayer meeting brings unity

Prayer for God to shed his grace on our community continues. Like the first prayer meeting two weeks ago, Tuesday evening’s gathering crossed racial and denominational lines, emphasizing the unity we have in Jesus Christ.

The Scripture upon which we based our praying is Romans 15:5-6: “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We prayed for the healing of divisions in our community. God’s mercy was sought for the children among us who face hardships. We asked God to grant wisdom and compassion to our elected officials. In recognition of Pentecost Sunday this weekend, we prayed for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the church, that we may be unified in our expression of God’s power and love. We thanked God for the many good things he has given us in this community. In the end, we rejoiced that though we are a small group, we serve a powerful God who hears and answers the prayers of his people.

We will continue to meet twice a month, the second Tuesday at 7 p.m. and the fourth Thursday at noon. Our meetings are held at West Hills Presbyterian Church, 1354 Ruin Creek Road, which is less than half a mile south of Exit 212 off Interstate 85. We will meet again Thursday, May 26, at noon and Tuesday, June 14, at 7 p.m.
