We at HomeinHenderson have a confession: The national addiction to poker has hooked us. We like to play poker, watch poker, read about poker — we probably need an intervention. Until then, ours eyes and Web browsers are trained on Las Vegas for the main event of the World Series of Poker, the biggest live tournament in history. The astounding official numbers: 5,619 players entered, at $10,000 apiece, for a total prize pool of $52,818,610. That’s more than double the annual Henderson budget. The top nine finishers will get at least $1 million each, and the winner will walk away with $7.5 million. The field was so big that “Day 1” was broken into three daylong heats in which survival was the main goal. The real excitement starts this afternoon at 3 when the final 2,000 or so pack into one room at the Rio hotel for Day 2. You can join us in following the action. Or, it being Sunday, you can take a moment at church to pray for our salvation.
