ALE organizes Katrina collections Saturday

The local Red Cross and the Alcohol Law Enforcement Division of the North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety will sponsor Relief Aid on Saturday to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Henderson and Oxford each will have a centralized drop-off spot: the Wal-Mart Supercenter on North Cooper Drive in Henderson and Alan Vester Mitsubishi at 1010 Linden Ave. in Oxford.

Organizers also will set up drop spots throughout the communities to collect nonperishables items such as water and canned goods with pop tops and such basic toiletries as toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, deodorant, washcloths, baby food, diapers, wipes and sanitizers. People also may donate money to Relief Aid.

In addition to local law enforcement agencies, participants in Relief Aid include Solectron, Alan Vester Mitsubishi, Food Lion, Wal-Mart, Lowe’s Foods, Old Motor Inn, Granville County Schools, Granville County Girl Scouts, the Vance and Granville Chambers of Commerce, and the criminal justice students at Vance-Granville Community College.

ALE agent Greg Hughes (919-693-6133) and Granville Red Cross coordinator Twanna Jones (919-693-6550) can provide more information.
