Police investigate serious shooting

A Henderson man was seriously wounded in a shooting early today, city police announced in a news release.

Officers dispatched to 512 Water St. at 4:04 a.m. found Willie Richardson Jr., 40, of 622 Highland Ave. with what appeared to be a serious gunshot wound. An ambulance took Richardson to Maria Parham Medical Center for treatment.

The victim was found near the edge of the planned Weed and Seed zone the city and county hope to establish. One of the goals of the federal strategy is to drive out violence and drugs. A public forum on the proposal is set for Monday at 6 p.m. at the Gateway Center.

Police made no arrests in the shooting. L.S. Burchette was the reporting officer, and J.T. Amos is the detective heading the investigation.

Crimestoppers, at 492-1925, will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the culprit. All information is confidential, and callers may remain anonymous.
