City nears “requests for assistance” consensus

The joint Human Resources/FAIR Committee meeting requested by Human Resources Chair Mary Emma Evans was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Evans.

Evans immediately requested that the meeting go into closed session to discuss the contract of the city manager.

During the closed session, Human Resources Committee member Bernard Alston and Mayor Clem Seifert entered the meeting.

An hour later, when the media was allowed to re-enter, Seifert distributed a document based on a list of the city’s legislative priorities that had been generated at a work session on April 12.

That document may be reviewed here.

According to Seifert, the list was named “requests for assistance” rather than “priorities” so that the North Carolina legislative delegation would support the entire list, rather than just the top items.

He did state that the list was not final and there were “tweaks we have to make”.

City Manager Jerry Moss added, “Maybe some number changes”.

A deadline of lunchtime the next day was set for committee members to send in possible revisions. Seifert stated that he wanted the requests for assistance recognized in the minutes of Monday’s upcoming city council meeting.

It was established the Evans would review with Moss the discussion regarding the city manager’s contract.
