Local dignitaries such as the Chair of the Embassy Foundation Board Sam Watkins, Henderson City Council members Mary Emma Evans and Garry Daeke, and County Manager Jerry Ayscue, among others, turned out for the official first day of business for the new H. Leslie Perry Memorial library yesterday morrning.

Circulation Desk
Upon entering the library, the circulation desk was observed doing a brisk trade in processing returned books. Books checked out near the closing of the old library in June were not due until after the opening of the new library in July to help with the move.

Information station
Also observed near the entrance were study centers with touch screen computers, each with a different theme, such as “Out of Africa”, or, “The Arts”.
In the periodicals section, a “Community Information” bulletin board as been installed. This board uses either magnets or tacks and appears to be extremely durable.
Hundreds of people toured through the library during the day, touring the new facility, checking out books, or sitting and reading the periodicals. People were observed checking out children’s books by the armload.
“It’s going pretty well,” Jeanne Fox, Library Director, told Home in Henderson. “We certainly have a nice turnout. We’re getting back all the books people checked out to help us move. We’re getting swamped by returns.”
Fox continued by saying that the library has been very busy with regular business, along with the celebration of arts and the issuing of new cards.
“The excitement has been fantastic,” she emphasized.
Fox mentioned that books do not have to be returned during the first days, since July is a fine-free month.

Cinderella & Bob the Builder
Children’s characters such as Cinderella, Bob the Builder, Blue, Blackbeard, and others roamed the library, meeting and greeting children and adults.
The much-vaunted wi-fi connection worked perfectly during Home in Henderson‘s visit as well.
