Raleigh — U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington), the only N.C. member of the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement today in response to the foiled terror plot in the United Kingdom.
“Today’s events remind us that our aviation system is still vulnerable to threats. One of the 9/11 Commission’s key recommendations was to improve security screening to ensure that explosive devices can be detected. The Administration and Congress should take all appropriate steps to ensure that next generation technologies are installed that will detect explosives like those involved in the London terror plot.
“I urge all North Carolinians to continue with travel plans as scheduled. I commend the Department of Homeland Security for acting quickly to raise the terror threat level and for taking the necessary precautions to protect Americans who are traveling today.”
