Weekend open line
We’re proud to see how our community comes together in worry and in joy as one of our own is lost and recovered. What other positive, unique features does this place offer that recent or potential “transplants” might not be aware of? List them below, or whatever else is on your mind, on …

Friday’s open line
In tough economic times, with energy prices high and supply occasionally uncertain, it seems as if more businesses would be considering “home worker” programs. Now, we know that not every job can be done at home (like either one of ours), but it may be that many of your daily commutes are as superfluous as our collection of ’45s in the age of Napster. We’re told even the state has provisions and guidelines regarding telecommuting. Can workers be as productive …

Wednesday’s open line
My grandfather used to say “We’re poor, but we’re proud,” to my mother and my aunts and uncle. That was 50 years ago. Everyone in the family has moved on from poverty since then, except those of us who went into teaching and blogging. Today, there’s still plenty of poverty to go around, but not much of Grandpa’s spunk. How can we instill real pride, rather than bluster and bravado, in our citizenry, no matter what, or perhaps in spite …
