Henderson “needs survey” results

In addition to its regular duties, the FAIR Committee has been conducting a series of special meetings with Richard Seekins of the Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments.

The purpose of the meetings has been to help the city, through the advise of Seekins, acquire more grant money.

Seekins has expressed the opinion in previous meetings that grant money may more easily be obtained if the city can present a needs list that is both categorized and prioritized. To that end, at the council meeting on October 9, Seekins presented the City Council and Mayor with a “Needs Survey” divided into five categories: infrastructure, housing and neighborhood development, physical and local services, youth and human services, and transportation.

The Mayor and the Council went through a work session to create a set of priorities earlier this year. However, at the behest of Henderson Mayor Clem Seifert, the “priorities” were not ranked against each other, something that Seekins views as contrary to the effort of grant and fund-raising efforts.
