The Southern Vance High School PTSA is sponsoring an Internet Safety Workshop for parents throughout Vance County on Tuesday, November 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library on Breckenridge Street in downtown Henderson.
The workshop will be led by representatives of the N.C. Department of Justice.
Only adults should attend the workshop due to the graphic content of the presentation.
The PTSA is sponsoring the workshop as a way to inform parents and guardians of children about the dangers children face in using the internet. Alarming statistics show: that children have easy access to pornography through the internet; they divulge personal information to complete strangers who can easily locate them and harm them; and children say and do things over the internet that they would not normally do in person.
The workshop will offer parents helpful information on how to control their children’s access to the internet, and how to monitor what their children are doing online.
