The Vance County Unit of the Boys and Girls Club opened its doors to children yesterday at its two temporary locations at E.M. Rollins and L.B. Yancey Elementary Schools.
The opening of the Club represents planning and fund-raising efforts dating back to February of 2005 when a group of concerned citizens headed by Elaine Chavis-Young formed a committee whose purpose was to bring a Boys and Girls Club to Vance County.
Interest appeared to be strong in the Club, with 40 children at the E.M. Rollins site alone. More children are expected to register in the near future.
