Washington, D.C. — Congressman G. K. Butterfield will help present a Congressional briefing on the 2007 Farm Bill from an African-American perspective on Thursday, April 19th from 10 – 11 a.m. in 202-A Cannon House Office Building.
Butterfield, who organized the event, will be joined in giving remarks on the upcoming debate on the Farm Bill by House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C., Congressman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., Congresswoman Eva Clayton (retired), D-N.C., and a farming expert from the Congressional Research Service.
The Senate and House Agriculture Committees recently began considering the details of the 2007 Farm Bill. The Senate approved a fiscal year 2008 Budget Resolution that includes a $15 billion reserve fund for increased spending on farm programs in the 2007 Farm Bill. The House Budget Resolution contained $20 billion set aside for increased Farm Bill spending.
Members and senior staff have been invited as well as representatives from the United Nations, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, 1890 Land Grant Colleges and Non-Governmental Organizations.
