Congressman G. K. Butterfield welcomed Senator Elizabeth Dole’s decision to publicly oppose the Navy’s preferred site for an Outlying Landing Field (OLF) in Washington and Beaufort counties.
He also said that he has been working to include legislative language in the fiscal year 2008 National Defense Authorization Act that would bar the Navy from building on its preferred site.
“It’s my hope that Senator Dole will also put forward similar legislative language that protects Washington and Beaufort counties from the Navy moving forward there,” Butterfield said. “I understand the Navy’s desire to site an OLF, but undoubtedly a much more suitable site can be found.”
