Raleigh — Rep. Michael H. Wray has been appointed by House Speaker Joe Hackney to a bipartisan committee that will study issues related to emergency preparedness and disaster management.
The Joint Select Committee on Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Management Recovery will study state building codes in hurricane and flood areas; public health infrastructure; hurricane/flood preparedness, evacuation, and response; energy security; and bioterrorism. Rep. Wray will serve on the Subcommittee on Disaster Preparedness. Other Subcommittees are: Building Code Issues, Public Health and Bioterrorism and Energy Security Issues.
The 30-member committee will be led by Rep. Pete Cunningham and Sen. Martin Nesbitt. They are expected to make a final report by the end of 2008 and have the authority to issue interim reports before then.
“I am pleased to be appointed to the Joint Select Committee on Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Management Recovery,” Rep. Wray said. “It is critical that our state and its citizens are prepared for weather, public health, energy, security and bioterrorism emergencies. I am sure the committee’s report will bring recommendations for improvement in our state’s preparedness and recovery efforts when emergencies occur.”
