The U.S. House of Representatives Agriculture Committee will meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to vote on a new five-year Farm Bill.
U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) is the Chair of the Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management. Etheridge’s subcommittee was responsible for writing a significant portion of the next Farm Bill.
The current Farm Bill expires in September. The committee will consider a base bill offered by Chairman Peterson that continues the country’s current successful agriculture policies. Amendments to the bill will also be voted on. The Farm Bill authorizes a safety net for farmers and ranchers, as well as nutrition, conservation, alternative energy and rural development initiatives.
